2nd Course Date

gallery-pics.jpg Billed as an “evening with Christian Fletcher” as per the recommendations of some of the first coursers!! I am putting together another night on the 29th of March at my Dunsborough gallery. I will try to put on some wine this time as well as another tasty platter from my good friends at Meal up. Let me know if your interested in attending.

  2. Yeah I’ll be there. I won’t join in the course this time I’ll just sit back in the corner and sip on the free vino.

Just joking,I recommend the night to everyone.

  3. I’d love to come but it clashes with a wedding that Im going too so again I have to say no 😦 😦 😦 I am not impressed, buts its not like I can ask them to change the wedding date just for me!!! Will have to try again next time!!!

  6. Im glad the first course was a success, and would love to come to this one, but unfortunately ive got plans that night, its my birthday so celebrating that. but i would love to know when the next one is after that!

  7. I am definitely interested. Wish I could have made it to the first one! What is the cost of an evening with Christian Fletcher?

  8. let me know about the shift shift Kirk, Beau it is only $250 to get all the info I spent 17 years getting. Not to mention some free wine and nibbles!!!

Sorry to those who can’t make it.

  9. Beau mate if you head to Dunsborough for the course I would love to come down and shoot with ya. Probs have to sit out on the course since i have already been!

  10. Not sure this applies or should be posted here, christian can delete if warranted, but since he uses and quite a few of the fellow photographers use canon heres the latest specs for the 5D mrkII ( so glad they look like keeping the model name 5D)

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.

The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

    – 15.3 MP full frame CMOS sensor (vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel: improved micro lenses; miniaturized micro circuitry; enhanced signal/noise ratio)

    – Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III

    – Dual Digic III with all-new “CXR” NR system reported to best 3rd party NR software. Available as a C.F with 4 levels of customizable parameters.

    14 bit A/D conversion
    – ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)
    – Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement
    – All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor
with 12 cross-type for F/2.8 or faster lens
    (35% faster than 40D)
    – Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses
    – 300,000 exposure shutter durability
    – 6.0 / 3.0 fps
    – 3.0″ LCD
    922,000 pixels
    – EOS Integrated Cleaning System
    – Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)
    – 6/3 fps continuous shooting for up to 68 frames
    – MSRP US$3499, available June 2

Improved sensor sensitivity, sounds nice hope this means dynamic range is being improved.

  11. mate the 5D is the camera i eventually want to upgrade to, and the mkII entices me even more!

  12. Yeah I’ve seen that story on northlight images as well.

These days I wait to see the actual product before I get excited.

    There’s always too many rumours.

  13. But the all important question is “have they given us a dedicated button for Mirror Lockup” 😆

  14. @ Dave Catley
Chances are no, we’ll still have that print button that is totally worthless on a high end camera.

  15. Hi Kirk

There are plenty of places to stay around Dunsborough but best bet is to ring the tourist bureau as they will be able to tell you what is available at what cost.

  16. I have just heard from a source in the industry that there isn’t going to be another 5D but there is going to be a completely new camera between the 5d and the 1ds mark 3. Who do you believe. All I know is the 5d is good enough now to do anything my 1ds can do, so the bottom line is get out, get the best light and you will get the best images. Saying that if it is real the 5d mark 2 sounds very enticing. Hey we are photographers, we are all wanting new stuff, I’m one of the worst. New gear won’t get you better photos if you don’t take better photos!!!

  17. Very true Christian, but we all like shinny new things, holding back is the key 🙂

  18. I love new shinny things especially things to do with photography and Apple, must get a Touch soon. My wife keeps trying to hold me back. Keeps rattling on about the mortgage, don’t know what she is talking about.

  19. These rumors on the 5d come all the time now. I heard this from this guy and my mate at canon told me this.

I’m hanging out for the 3d or was that the 2.5d 🙂

  20. I agree with Christian, I have the 5D, its a great camera, but its all about the photographer at the end of the day, his vision, dreams and point of view. Hey but new toys…! I love them. just have to work out how to get sufficent return on them to pay for them.
My new Pano head is a dream, and Im going to have a lot of fun in South Africa over the next few months.

  21. I’m only working with a 400D and i’m pretty happy with my image quality. Obviously need to upgrade some day, but for now i’m not complaining.
Christian, I have a framed print going into a art gallery in Dalkeith and i was just speaking to the owner and he seamed to think that it is alright if you price it higher in a gallery than it would be if you personally sold it, because the gallery takes a cut. Do you always keep your prices the same where ever they are sold?

    cheers

    dylan

  22. Hi Christian,

I bought my wife an iPod Touch first. Now all I have to do is wait for a few months and I can buy myself one. 😉

    Jamie

  23. Nigel, what pano head do you have?
I’m looking at a few at the moment, and i’m not sure which one yet.
    cheers

    dylan

  24. does she love it?

  25. I try to keep my prices consistent across the board but yes it is hard when you loose a third to the gallery. In that situation I would put the commission on top of the price you normally get. There is no point doing it otherwise. You have to make money and so does the gallery. If the gallery doesn’t make money you have no where to hang your stuff. They have to pay rent and wages plus other overheads such as power and rates. It isn’t all it is cracked up to be having a gallery. It is better if it is your own gallery as you don’t have the middle man to pay.

    cheers

  26. yeah it would be ideal to have my own gallery! one day.
    thanks for that.

  27. Hi Christian ,
didnt have any luck swapping out of work , so im going to have to unfortantly miss the couse again 😦 ,
If your holding another one in the future I would definatly be keen and hopefully wont be working .

  28. I just found out about the course through the Rockingham Camera Club. Would love to make it but unfortunately I have a wedding in Bunbury on that day. How often are you planning on doing these courses?

  29. Hi Craig, I hope to do one every couple of weeks or so. I will add you to the list and email you when the next one comes up.

    Kind regards
    Christian

  30. Kirk it seems to be the case for a lot of people, most can’t make that date. It is a bummer as I don’t want to run the course unless it is full. maybe I need to look at another weekend.

  31. Hi Christian,

Yes she does love the iPod Touch it rocks, better sound quality than my normal iPod. I’m going to get one to carry around my fashion portfolio so that I can show people my pics when I’m out and about.

    Jamie

  32. really, better sound quality? great, I have a kick ass hifi at home and anything to improve the sound I’m into. May have to order one tonight under the disguise of a present for my wife too.

  33. Did you order the iPod touch? 😉

  34. not yet, my wife is putting up some resistance to me having one when we need to buy things for the house. I will keep working on her.

  35. Missed first course because of my bucks do and unfortunatly can’t make second because of a friends wedding. Please put me on list for third course am still very interested in attending. Cheers.

  36. Dave you have to stay away from all these weddings! Not good for your health or your quest for knowledge!!! Will let you know about the third course, should be sometime in April. Cheers
